Phoenox secures world-first noise-reducing patent for mats

23 January 2023

One of the great benefits of flooring textiles is the ability to add softness and warmth to a living space, but now there is an even greater benefit; peace and quiet!

Feet and paws can generate lots of unwanted noise, especially on exposed flooring, that’s why we developed our patented acoustic dampening technology which is applied to each and every Hug Rug® we manufacture.

Following years of extensive research and development and in conjunction with researchers at Manchester University, our patented coating absorbs up to 26db of sound, instead of it being reflected back into the room. Not only does this help to reduce the sound of footsteps, but also unwanted background sounds like conversations, music or external traffic.

Speaking in response to the granting of the world-first patent, Director Adrian Mosley said

"We are absolutely thrilled to have been granted this new noise reduction patent for our products. At Pheonox, we're always looking for new ways to develop better-quality products that can help improve the lives of our customers. Being able to help people relax in their homes by reducing unwanted noise is something that consumers want and we're happy to deliver."

The latest acoustic-dampening patent, is the latest in long-list of pioneering textile innovations from Phoenox Textiles. You can learn more here.
